Milestone!

After an incredible, challenging, rewarding, and educational journey as CEO of Súrefni, I have now begun a new chapter.

I want to extend my sincere thanks to my team, our clients, and our collaborators for the trust and fantastic cooperation over the years. Some fantastic projects that were part of the growing carbon market in Iceland

• 🌲 A forestry project focused on certified carbon offsetting – in partnership with Hringrás and Land og Skógur (formerly the Icelandic Forest Service), one of Iceland’s first carbon offset forests, using the Skógarkolefni methodology.

• 🔌 The first active, certified carbon credits available in Iceland, and Iceland’s first Verra-certified project overall – in collaboration with Ísorka. This remarkable project wouldn’t have been possible without the vision and boldness of founder Sigurður Ástgeirsson.

• ♻️ Plastic credit certification with Pure North – which became the first recycling facility in Europe to issue Verra-certified plastic credits. A big thank you to Sigurður Halldórsson for his entrepreneurial spirit and drive in making that project happen.

• 🌿 A RANNÍS-funded tourism app – combining travel with carbon sequestration through tree planting along Iceland’s ring road.

We also worked with partners in the UAE, Kazakhstan, across Europe, and with dozens of Icelandic companies on sustainability projects and carbon market strategies.

Súrefni will continue without me in the role of CEO, operating as a broker and seller of certified carbon credits, and will continue delivering high-quality services in that space.
