A November 2022 Fréttablaðið profile described Súrefni’s early work in carbon project development and credit services. It reported that the business was founded in 2020 and began formal operations in summer 2021.

The profile introduced founder Aríel Jóhann Árnason and co-owner Egill Örn Magnússon, alongside a specialist team. It described a focus on helping companies understand their emissions and access documented climate projects.

One example was Súrefnisskógurinn in southern Iceland, near Markarfljót and Seljalandsfoss. The article reported that almost 29,000 birch and poplar seedlings were planted in July 2022.

The interview emphasised project documentation, independent assessment and the distinction between future carbon sequestration and realised credits. It also presented carbon credits as one component of a broader effort to measure and reduce emissions.
