Plastic project advisory in Kazakhstan.
Surefni provided consulting support for a plastic collection and recycling project in Karaganda, Kazakhstan. The engagement considered a plastic credit pathway for activity operated by Gorkomtrans, with Linkpower s.r.o. identified as the project proponent.
The project.
The project concerns plastic collection and recycling in the Karaganda region. The operating context included waste collection locations, sorting and a recycling facility handling PET, LDPE and HDPE. These activities provided the basis for the proposed plastic project pathway.
Our role.
Surefni provided consulting support for the collection and recycling project. The engagement extends our plastic project experience beyond Iceland and into a different waste management setting. Gorkomtrans was the operating business, with Linkpower s.r.o. identified as the project proponent developing the credit project.
The development objective.
The project was developed around the objective of expanding collection and recycling activity in the region, with a plastic credit pathway considered as a potential source of support for that expansion. Its context included the movement of plastic waste through collection, sorting and processing, and the evidence needed to describe these as distinct project activities.
Experience across operating contexts.
This engagement forms part of Surefni’s international advisory experience in plastic collection and recycling. It illustrates the importance of understanding the local operating system, the parties involved and the project’s intended development pathway. Those elements give the advisory work a defined context and help establish which technical questions must be addressed as the project progresses.
