Plastic project support for geothermal-powered recycling.
Surefni supported Pure North’s plastic credit project in Iceland. The project uses geothermal energy in domestic plastic recycling and completed registration and verification approval under Verra’s Plastic Program in 2024.
The project.
Pure North operates a plastic recycling facility in Hveragerði, Iceland. Its project uses geothermal energy to clean and recycle plastic waste domestically. The activity connects a waste processing operation with a crediting framework designed for plastic waste collection and recycling. The project is recorded as Verra Plastic Program project 4133.
Our role.
Surefni provided consulting support for the plastic credit project, connecting an Icelandic recycling operation with an international project pathway. The engagement forms part of our experience advising operating businesses on plastic project development. The relationship was also included in Business Iceland’s company profile for COP28.
A documented milestone.
In its Plastic Program newsletter of 12 April 2024, Verra included Pure North among the projects that had completed registration and verification approval. The announcement identifies the project and its geothermal recycling activity. This dated milestone provides an independent programme reference for the case study and a basis for discussing the project’s development history.
Plastic project and purchase enquiries.
We support organisations seeking to understand the project or enquire about plastic credits. The discussion starts with the purpose of the purchase and the project activity being considered. Project information and the associated records can then be reviewed in that context. Our plastic advisory work keeps the collection or recycling activity clear throughout the discussion, helping clients make a decision that reflects their actual objective.
